Automatic Water Changer: Part 2

Posted 01/01/2012 at 10:06 PM by Aaarrrggg (Aaarrrggg's 144g Half Circle Dream)

Then he did all sorts of clever plumbing!

The RO/DI unit is plumbed in under the sink on the other side of the wall. Water travels through the black line to the RO unit. (Waste...

Automatic Water Changer: Part 1

Posted 01/01/2012 at 09:57 PM by Aaarrrggg (Aaarrrggg's 144g Half Circle Dream)

Ok time for the watercharger update I've been teasing you all with! This is going to be a biggie so hang in there. I wanted to get as much information up as possible so it might help others set up something similar.

Let me start at the beginning...

My previous water-change routine went something like this...
Put 5g jug in sink and fill up with RO. Remember (= forget!) to set stopwatch for 2hrs so I don't waste a ton of water. Fill Rubbermaid trashcan with 20g...

Hitchhikers

There are still no fish in the tank... just a few more snails and some scarlet hermits. I'm still holding off adding Marley & Guybrush until the nitrate comes down. It's still hovering around 30... which tbh the clowns would probably be fine with, but they're my little preciouses so I'm being overly cautious. I figure the delay is probably helpful for the IPSFs critters to get established anyway.

Around Christmas I got a population explosion of tiny hydroids on the glass. They...

Seapug's 200 Gallon Marineland DD Peninsula

Posted 12/30/2011 at 02:10 PM by seapug

After 5 years of service that provided me moments of joy and tears, frustrations and successes along with moments of incredible beauty as well as complete disgust, it had become time for my old 90 gallon to retire.

Hasty setup decisions made early on had started to come back to bite me (plumbing, bad stand) and my tank was starting to show signs of what is commonly referred to as "Old Tank syndrome." Though the tank was algae free and generally stable and healthy, the...

Building Debt With a Basement

Anyone who's been in this hobby for a while knows that a basement set-up is the way to go if you have one, and up until just recently, I was among the many who wished they had one.

Well, thanks to the combination of a marriage and a recent non-traveling job offer that landed me here in the Rocket City, I now have one! Plus, I have enough time and a little extra money to invest in such a set-up and finally have that big beautiful SPS dominant coral reef tank in my living room that...
