Light Loss

With your MH lamp so close to the water, some of your light is "leaking" through the upper portion of your glass or acrylic walls. If your light is higher, the light will be reflected back into your tank.

Try an experiment:
- Turn off all lighting in your room except for the MH lamp.
- Watch for "glitter lines" on the floor and walls of your room.

If you raise the MH, you will not see as much "glitter" in your room. They will stay in your tank.

Alternatively, look through the glass with your eye below the water surface. If you can see the bright MH lamp, then the light may need to be raised.
