Question Algae Scrubber Ideas

So I have a 20 gallon reef tank with a bit of a green hair algae problem. A friend recommended an algae scrubber. I want to build one and place it in a H.O.B. filter. I have no sump on this tank because I didnt have space, and I only have this algae issue. I chose the H.O.B filter because my lights shine over the filter already so mine as well place the scrubber in there. Has anyone ever done this before? Or does anyone have a better idea?

HOB with Macro will most likely solve your issue, considering the design issues associated with algae scrubbers-- and associated maintenance. They are "cool" these days, (after years in obsolescence) and make for good conversations, but they are not really needed.

We all have our personal opinions on algae scrubbers vs other filtration methods based on what we've seen. My opinion would be that since you are open to the idea of trying one, you should definitely go for it. Here's a great thread from the advanced topics forum where you can get a lot of positive info and feedback on your algae scrubber questions:

ill look into the chaeto, and more info on the algae scrubbers. hell, I may try both lol. It seems like algae scrubbers are sump friendly and to a larger scale though....
