DKH swings

90gal mixed reef apex DOS and Neptune
DOS settings 7O% through photo period 30% at night
Value 8.3
Range .4
Limit 35
120 ml total 3 intervals BRS soda ash and calcium
18 ml-—-84ml during photo period—-18 ml
Swing time: Midnight 8.01 6am 7.96 noon 8.13 6pm 8.31
This was yesterday but this is the trend about .3 swing
Calcium pretty stable at 400 and mag at 1425
Is this a normal swing or can I flatten it?
My other concern is the amount of additive
120ml seems to be a lot.

I got no clue if that's a normal change in the daily alkalinity consumption. One variable that has only recently had any significant research done is the world wide spike of oxygen around solar midnight, (here's the link and pers comm. with Dr. Haas). This might account for the higher reading in the middle of the night compared to 6 AM. Daily changes in photosynthesis, food consumption, resperation by all the organisms, will all affect alkalinity. I only concern myself with long term stability.
